2022年8月13日 上海のホテル4・背徳感のあるVIP待遇チェックイン
上海では美臣酒店(Meichen Hotel)での宿泊が多かったが、満室の際は近隣の少し高級なホテルに宿泊した。
ある時、チェックインを頼むと案内するからとボーイを呼んだ。エレベーターに乗って案内された先はアッパークラス専用カウンターだった。
予約は普通の部屋で訳が分からないままチェックインを終えると予約通りだった。
どうも手違いで同行の女性と同室の予約となっており、これがVIP待遇チェックインの原因だった。
中国駐在経験のある人が言っていたが、家族ではない男女が同室に宿泊するのは中国ではご法度らしく、周囲の目に触れない専用カウンターでのチェックインとなったのだった。
勿論、同行していた女性とは別々の部屋を取り直してもらった。

In Shanghai, I often stayed at the Meichen Hotel, but when it was fully booked, I stayed at a slightly more expensive hotel nearby.
One time, a concierge called a staff to guide me when I asked to check in. After getting on the elevator,
I was guided to an upper-class counter. The reservation was for a normal room, and when I finished checking in without knowing what was going on,
it was as per the reservation.
By some mistake, it seemed that I had reserved the same room as the woman who accompanied us,
and this was the reason for the VIP check-in.
A person who has lived in China told me that it is illegal in China for men and women who are not family members to stay in the same room,
so we had to check in at a dedicated counter that was not visible to the people around us.
Of course, I got a separate room from the woman who was accompanying us.
