2022年6月14日 香りと記憶4 理由不明だが場所を想起させる匂い
特定の香りではなく「空気の匂い」も記憶と結びついているようだ。
晩秋から初冬の凛とした冷たい空気も独特の匂いがあり、これを嗅ぐと故郷の札幌を思い出す。
札幌ではお尻に綿帽子状の白いふわふわが付いた「雪虫」が飛ぶ頃になると空気がこの匂いになるが、これが故郷の匂いでありしっかりと脳に焼き付いているようだ。
一方、春から初夏にかけての雨上がりの匂いはアメリカ出張時に良く泊まっていたホテルの駐車場を思い出すのだが、
特に印象的な出来事があった訳でもなく、何故、この情景が思い浮かぶのか未だに不明だ。
嗅覚は脳に直結しており言語化されている訳ではないことの証左であろうが、人間の感覚の神秘を感じる次第である。

It seems that the "smell of the air" rather than a specific scent is also associated with memory.
The cold air from late autumn to early winter also has a unique scent that reminds me of my hometown of Sapporo.
In Sapporo, when the "snow bugs", which have a fluffy white cotton hat on their buttocks, fly, the air will smell like this.
On the other hand, the smell after the rain from spring to early summer reminds me of the parking lot of the hotel where I often stayed during my business trip to the United States.
I do not know why this scent reminds me that scene.
This may be evidence that the sense of smell is directly connected to the brain and is not verbalized,
but I feel the mystery of human senses.
