2022年5月27日 正確だが良く分からない道案内
米国でレンタカーを借りた時の話。大抵、複数のレンタカー会社が一箇所に固まっているが、ダラス・フォートワース空港はレンタカーエリアが移動していた。
ターミナルから専用バスでエリアに向かい車を借りたのだが、自分が空港のどの辺に居るか、場所も方角さえ分からない。
「LBJ(ハイウェイ635号)に乗るにはどう行く?」とレンタカー窓口の女性に聞いてみた。
地図での説明を期待したが、答えは「右に行って、左に行って、左に行って、左に行く」だけだった。
えっ、と思ったが、曲がり角毎に言われた通りの方向に曲がると確かに空港を南北に縦断する道路に出た。
確かに正確な道案内だったが、こんな道案内で良いの?と思ってしまった。

A story about renting a car in the US.
Usually, multiple car rental companies were gathered in one place, but at Dallas Fort Worth Airport,
the car rental areas moved. I took a private bus from the terminal to the area and rented a car,
but I didn't know where I was at the airport, or even the direction.
"How can I get on LBJ (Highway 635)?" I asked the woman at the rental car counter.
I expected an explanation on the map, but her answer was simple, "Go right, go left, go left, go left".
I was embarrassed, but at every turn I turned in the direction she told,
and I did indeed come out onto the road that ran north-south through the airport.
It was certainly an accurate guide, but I wondered if this kind of guide was suitable?
