2022年1月19日 アルジェリアのホテルの朝食
アルジェのホテルは朝食付きで階下の食堂でパンとコーヒーが出た。水質が悪いのでコーヒーも薬くさい。
確かに駐在員事務所のお茶は2度沸かしで石灰を沈殿させて淹れていた。パンは猫の顔形でふっくらではないがまぁ食べられる。
そこへ後からアルジェ入りした営業担当の人が朝食にきた。「これはカニパンと呼んでるんだ。小麦の質が悪いから膨らまないがクロワッサンなんだよ」
と言いパンを細かくちぎって食べていた。変わった食べ方だな、と思っていたら、「小麦には小さいゴキブリが多いから除いて食べるんだ」と仰る。
え～、それ早く言ってよ、さっき黒い塊を麦と思って食べたのに …。既に後の祭りで、しっかり自分の胃袋に収めた後だった。

The hotel in Algiers included breakfast and bread and coffee were served in the dining room downstairs.
The water quality was poor, so coffee tasted like medicine.
Certainly, the tea in the representative office was brewed by boiling it twice to settle the limestone.
Bread was a cat's face and was not plump, but it could be eaten.
A sales person who entered Algiers came to breakfast afterward. "I call this crab bread.
It doesn't plump well because of the poor quality of the wheat, but it's a croissant," he said,
chopping the bread into small pieces and eating it. When I thought it was a strange way to eat, he said,
"Wheat has a lot of small cockroaches, so I eat the bread after picking out of it". What?, I wanted to hear earlier,
because I just ate the black lump as wheat ... I have put it in my stomach already.
